Tacitus — Roman Historian (c. AD 116)
Tacitus was one of Rome's greatest historians and had no sympathy for Christianity. In his Annals, he references the execution of "Christus" under Pontius Pilate during the reign of Tiberius — and notes that despite this, the movement spread from Judea to Rome. An enemy source confirms both the man and His death.

Josephus — Jewish Historian (c. AD 93)
Josephus was a first-century Jewish historian who wrote for a Roman audience. He references Jesus twice in his Antiquities of the Jews — once mentioning "James the brother of Jesus who was called Christ" and once in a longer passage describing His ministry, death, and resurrection appearances. Even adjusted for later Christian edits, the core references are accepted as authentic by most scholars.

Pliny the Younger, Suetonius & the Talmud
Roman governor Pliny the Younger (AD 112) wrote to Emperor Trajan about Christians who "sing hymns to Christ as a god." Suetonius references disturbances in Rome caused by "Chrestus." The Jewish Talmud — written by people who rejected Jesus — still references His execution, calling it a punishment for sorcery and leading Israel astray. Every hostile source confirms He existed.

What He Claimed About Himself
Jesus did not claim to be merely a good teacher or a moral philosopher. His claims were the most extraordinary ever made by any human being — and His enemies understood exactly what He was saying. They tried to stone Him for it.
"I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life"
"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"
John 14:6 — He claimed to be the exclusive path to God. Not one of many ways. The only way.
"Before Abraham Was, I AM"
"'Very truly I tell you,' Jesus answered, 'before Abraham was born, I am!' At this, they picked up stones to stone him."
John 8:58–59 — "I AM" is the divine name God gave Moses. The crowd understood immediately — they tried to stone Him for blasphemy.
"I and the Father Are One"

The Trilemma — C.S. Lewis
C.S. Lewis — a former atheist and one of the most brilliant thinkers of the 20th century — argued that given what Jesus claimed, there are only three rational conclusions. A good teacher is the one thing He cannot be.
Liar
He knew He wasn't God and said it anyway. But His entire moral teaching was about honesty, sacrifice, and love for others — not the profile of a deliberate deceiver who died for the lie.
Lunatic
He was sincerely deluded. But His teaching was the most coherent, consistent, and transformative moral philosophy in history. His reasoning under pressure was razor-sharp. This is not the profile of a madman.
Lord
He was exactly who He claimed to be. The evidence — fulfilled prophecy, His resurrection, His transformed disciples, the spread of Christianity — points here. This is the conclusion the evidence demands.

The Resurrection — Did It Really Happen?
Paul wrote that if Christ has not been raised, our faith is "futile" and we are "of all people most to be pitied." The entire Christian faith stands or falls on this one event. Here is the evidence secular historians accept.

The Empty Tomb
The tomb was empty three days after the crucifixion. Roman soldiers guarded it. The stone was sealed. And yet — it was empty. His enemies never produced a body. If the disciples stole it, they invented a story they were then tortured and killed for. People die for things they believe are true. They do not die for things they know are lies.

Over 500 Eyewitnesses
Paul, writing within 20 years of the resurrection, states that the risen Jesus appeared to Peter, then the Twelve, then to more than 500 people at the same time — "most of whom are still living" at the time of writing. He was inviting his readers to go check. Mass hallucinations are not a credible explanation for 500 simultaneous witnesses.

The Transformation of the Disciples
On the night of the crucifixion, the disciples were hiding in fear behind locked doors. Weeks later, they were boldly proclaiming the resurrection in the very city where it happened — to the people who crucified Jesus. Every major apostle died a martyr's death rather than recant. Fear does not produce this. Only something they witnessed with their own eyes does.

Saul of Tarsus was Christianity's most violent persecutor — hunting down and executing Christians. Then, on the road to Damascus, he encountered the risen Christ and became the most prolific author in the New Testament. He went from killing Christians to being killed for being one. What changed him? He said he saw Jesus alive after the crucifixion. He never once changed that story.

During Jesus's ministry, His own brothers did not believe He was the Messiah (John 7:5). After the resurrection, James — Jesus's biological brother — became a leader of the early church and was martyred for his faith. What convinced a man's own skeptical brother? He said Jesus appeared to him after the crucifixion (1 Corinthians 15:7).

The Explosion of the Early Church
Within weeks of the crucifixion, in the same city, 3,000 people were baptized in a single day. The movement then spread across the Roman Empire within a generation — without social media, without political power, and under severe persecution. Movements built on lies do not grow like this. Something real happened in Jerusalem.
So Who Is He to You?
You have seen the evidence. Jesus existed. He fulfilled prophecies written centuries before His birth. He claimed to be God. He rose from the dead. Over 500 people saw Him. His disciples died rather than deny it.
The question is no longer academic. The timeline on this site suggests we are in the final years before His return. If that's true — and the evidence says it might be — then the most important decision you will ever make is what you do with this Man.
