Signs of the End Times

Jesus and the prophets gave us specific signs to watch for before His return. Here is every major sign — and where we stand today.

Israel & Jerusalem

Ezek 36–37 · Zech 12 · Luke 21:24
Israel Reborn as a Nation
After nearly 1,900 years of exile, Israel was reestablished as a nation on May 14, 1948 — in a single day, exactly as Isaiah prophesied. This is widely considered the most significant prophetic fulfillment in modern history. The "fig tree" generation has begun.
"Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment?" — Isaiah 66:8
Fulfilled
Jerusalem Returned to Jewish Control
In June 1967, Israel captured Jerusalem for the first time in 1,900 years during the Six-Day War. Jesus said Jerusalem would be "trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled" — that era ended in 1967.
"Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled." — Luke 21:24

Israel a Source of Conflict for All Nations
Zechariah said Jerusalem would become "a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling" and "an immovable rock for all the nations." Israel and Jerusalem are the most contested piece of land on earth, dominating global politics far out of proportion to the country's size.
"I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves." — Zechariah 12:3
Fulfilled
The Third Temple
The Temple in Jerusalem must exist for the Antichrist to desecrate it at the midpoint of the tribulation (the Abomination of Desolation). The Temple Mount is currently controlled by the Dome of the Rock. The Temple Institute in Jerusalem has already prepared the vessels, garments, and plans for the Third Temple. Its construction is the next major prophetic requirement.
"He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven.' In the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination." — Daniel 9:27

Wars & Global Conflict

Matt 24:6–7 · Rev 6:3–4
Wars and Rumors of Wars
The 20th century saw two World Wars. The 21st century has seen conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Ukraine, Gaza, and now Iran. The world has been in a near-constant state of armed conflict since 1914. Jesus said this would be "the beginning of birth pains" — not the end, but the start of the season.
"You will hear of wars and rumors of wars… Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom." — Matthew 24:6–7

Iran War — Middle East in Flames
Operation Epic Fury (Feb 28–May 5, 2026) saw US-Israeli strikes dismantle Iran's nuclear and missile infrastructure — and kill Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the 36-year ruler and primary backer of Hamas and Hezbollah. The region predicted to be the epicenter of the tribulation is now actively at war on multiple fronts. This aligns with the Red Horse of the Second Seal: peace being taken from the earth.
"Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword." — Revelation 6:4

The Gog-Magog War
Ezekiel 38–39 describes a massive coalition — led by a nation from "the far north" (widely identified as Russia) along with Iran, Turkey, Libya, and others — invading Israel. God destroys the coalition supernaturally. This event has not occurred yet but the alliances described are actively forming today.
"Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshek and Tubal; prophesy against him… You will come from your place in the far north." — Ezekiel 38:2–15

The Covenant With Many (Peace Deal with Israel)
The Antichrist will confirm a 7-year covenant or peace deal with Israel — this event officially begins the tribulation clock. The Abraham Accords (2020) were a precursor, but the specific 7-year treaty with Israel and "many" nations has not yet been signed.
"He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven.'" — Daniel 9:27

Natural Disasters & Plagues

Matt 24:7 · Luke 21:11 · Rev 6:7–8
Earthquakes in Various Places
Seismic activity has increased dramatically in frequency and intensity over the last century. Major quakes have struck Haiti, Japan, Turkey, Nepal, and dozens of other nations. Jesus said earthquakes would be a sign — "birth pains" that grow more frequent and severe as the end approaches.
"There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven." — Luke 21:11

Pestilences (Global Plagues)
COVID-19 (2020) was the first truly global pandemic since the Spanish Flu of 1918. It killed over 7 million people, shut down the global economy, and accelerated global surveillance and vaccine-tracking technology — a clear preview of the kind of control systems the Mark of the Beast will require.
"There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places." — Luke 21:11

Famines
The UN reported that over 700 million people face food insecurity as of 2024. The war in Ukraine (a major global grain supplier) has caused ongoing food shortages across Africa and the Middle East. Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz in 2026 — through which 20% of global oil flows — has accelerated energy and food price shocks worldwide.
"Authority was given them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence." — Revelation 6:8

Society, Morality & the Last Days

2 Timothy 3:1–5 · Matthew 24:12
People Lovers of Self & Money
Paul described the last days as a time when people would be "lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud." Social media has created a culture of self-worship and comparison. Influencer culture, materialism, and the pursuit of status over substance are defining features of the modern age.
"People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy." — 2 Timothy 3:2

Love Growing Cold
Jesus said that because of the increase of wickedness, "the love of most will grow cold." Loneliness is now classified as a global epidemic by the WHO. Community, family, and connection are fracturing. Empathy is declining. People are more connected digitally and more isolated personally than at any point in history.
"Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold." — Matthew 24:12

Scoffers Mocking the Return of Christ
Peter warned that in the last days, scoffers would come saying "Where is this 'coming' he promised?" Christianity and the idea of Christ's literal return are openly mocked in mainstream culture, academia, and media. The scoffing itself is a sign.
"In the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, 'Where is this coming he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.'" — 2 Peter 3:3–4

Having a Form of Godliness but Denying Its Power
Paul describes people in the last days who appear religious but reject the supernatural reality of God. Cultural Christianity — going to church, using Christian language, but with no genuine faith or transformation — is at an all-time high even as genuine belief declines.
"Having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people." — 2 Timothy 3:5

Technology, Control & the Mark

Rev 13:16–18 · Dan 12:4
Knowledge Increased Exponentially
Daniel was told to "seal up the book until the time of the end, when many will go here and there to increase knowledge." For most of human history, knowledge doubled every century. It now doubles every 12 hours. The internet, AI, and digital storage have made more information available to more people than the entire previous history of civilization combined.
"But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge." — Daniel 12:4

Technology to Control All Buying & Selling
For the first time in human history, the technology exists to implement the Mark of the Beast — a system that controls every financial transaction globally. Cashless payment systems, digital IDs, biometric scanning, CBDC (central bank digital currencies), and AI surveillance make a buy/sell control system not just possible but imminent.
"It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark." — Revelation 13:16–17

Rise of AI & the Image of the Beast
Revelation 13 describes an "image of the beast" that is given breath and causes all who refuse to worship it to be killed. AI systems can now generate lifelike images, voices, and video of any person. Autonomous AI systems are being integrated into military targeting, government decision-making, and financial systems. The infrastructure for a sentient, worshipped AI image is being built now.
"The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed." — Revelation 13:15

Gospel, Deception & False Prophets

Matt 24:5, 11, 14 · Rev 14:6
The Gospel Preached to All Nations
Jesus said "this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." Bible translation organizations have now translated scripture into over 3,500 languages. The internet and satellite broadcasting have made the gospel accessible to virtually every person on earth. We are at or very near this fulfillment.
"And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." — Matthew 24:14
Fulfilled
Rise of False Prophets & Deception
Jesus warned that "many false prophets will appear and deceive many people." The prosperity gospel, new age spirituality, universalism, and cults claiming Jesus's name while rejecting His teaching have exploded globally. Deepfake technology now makes it possible to fabricate miracles, signs, and appearances — exactly the kind of deception Revelation 13 predicts from the False Prophet.
"For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect." — Matthew 24:24

Persecution of Christians
Open Doors reports that over 365 million Christians face high levels of persecution today — the highest number ever recorded. Christians are imprisoned, killed, and silenced in China, North Korea, Nigeria, Iran, and dozens of other nations. Jesus said his followers would be "hated by all nations" because of His name. That is the present reality.
"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me." — Matthew 24:9

These Are Birth Pains — Not the End

Jesus said all these signs would be "the beginning of birth pains." Birth pains don't stop — they intensify until the child arrives. Every fulfilled sign is not a reason to fear. It is a reason to get ready. The One who predicted all of this is coming back — exactly as He said.

"When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." — Luke 21:28
